Gene Variant Database Curation Course
A Satellite of the American Society of Human Genetics' annual meeting
Only 20 places are available
The Human Variome Project is an International Initiative with a goal of understanding genetic variation and using this information to improve human health through the control of genetic disease. The Human Genome Variation Society endeavors to foster the development of the necessary methodology and informatics to collect variations. Together, we offer this course on Gene Variant Database Curation.
- Are you curator of a gene variant database (LSDB), or are you considering to become one?
- Are you collecting patients with genetic disorders?
We offer a course on gene variant databases (Locus-Specific mutation DataBases), their structure, content and how to curate them.
In a era when more and more human exome and genome sequence data become available, we are flooded with information. To transform this information so it can be used in a medical and clinical setting, and be able to draw conclusions regarding disease-related phenotypes (pathogenic or not), we need to collect and manage these data effectively. Locus-specific variation databases (LSDBs) provide a proven, effective format for gene experts to collect and share information about variation, and thus to facilitate evaluation of pathogenicity. Effective management of LSDBs helps not only researchers and clinicians in their daily work, but especially benefits patients and their families.
MAXIMUM OF 20 delegates In order to acheive maximum interaction we have limited this course to the 1st 20 registrants. We will repeat this course on the 28th of May 2011 in Amsterdam as a satellite to the ESHG meeting.
